I am pleased to announce my involvement in a new musical endeavor with a fun and talented quintet based in Glenwood Springs, Colorado called “Defiance Stringband”. We’re calling our music “Eclectic Acoustic Americana” and are performing a wide variety of musical styles including old-time, folk, bluegrass, country, Celtic, ethnic and original compositions. This past October I was privileged to be part of a very special tribute to Brooks Robinson, the great and much loved, Hall of Fame, third baseman for the Baltimore Orioles (1955 - 1977). I first met Brooks in 1977 when I was introduced to him by my good friend, the late Mark Belanger (shortstop for the Orioles 1965 - 1981). For those of you who might not be aware, the Orioles have been playing "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" during the 7th inning stretch since 1976. It has long been a dream of mine to tell the story of what happened the day I met Brooks and, 32 years later, my dream came true! Click here to see my part in this night.
Last May (has it been a year ago already?) I had the pleasure of meeting an extremely talented a cappella group from Germany called Vocaldente. To see them perform their own unique version of "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" at Snowmass Chapel click here! To check out the rest of their a cappella art click here and prepare yourself for a special treat.
As always the photo gallery is a very slow "work in progress" so if you locate a photo of yourself without your name please contact us at info@johnsommers.com and we will amend the listing. Unfortunately, we can't use all the photos we receive, but we are always very grateful for the many photos you send us.
I wish you all a beautiful, fun-filled summer and look forward to seeing you soon.
